Marvell announced an all-stock deal valued at approximately $115 billion to acquire optical communications firm Lumentum, subject to shareholder and regulatory approvals. TrendForce estimates the combined entity's share of the wired communications semiconductor market will rise to nearly 7%, ranking behind only NVIDIA and Broadcom. By integrating Marvell's DSP and switch silicon capabilities with Lumentum's laser sources and optical transceivers, the merged company aims to expand into CPO and NPO optical interconnects and challenge Broadcom's electro-optic monopoly.
By combining Marvell's electrical chips with Lumentum's laser light sources, the transaction will enable cloud service providers to reduce their reliance on Broadcom when procuring AI optical interconnect solutions.
