Instagram Launches Edits Desktop App with MCP Support for AI Agent Video Editing
You can edit your videos with AI on Instagram’s new desktop Edits app
Instagram has launched a standalone desktop video editing app, Edits, on macOS. Featuring built-in MCP interfaces across its entire suite of editing tools, the app allows users to integrate Meta's Muse or any third-party AI agent for collaborative editing. Users can prompt agents to generate rough-cut project files via tool calling and then seamlessly switch to manual fine-tuning on a multitrack timeline. The desktop version also supports watermark-free 4K export, advanced color grading, and multiple aspect ratios, though a Windows version and cross-device collaboration are currently not available.
By opening up tool-level MCP interfaces, the Edits desktop app demonstrates how professional editing tools can leverage standard protocols to collaborate with third-party AI agents.
