IBM Research Introduces Palette: Enabling a 20B Model to Generate Enterprise-Grade Slides via Dual-Role Decomposition
Palette: teaching a small model to build decks in your design language
IBM Research has introduced Palette, a presentation generation system fine-tuned on a 20B open-source model that strictly adheres to enterprise design guidelines to produce self-hostable presentations. The framework decouples the task into two roles—a Designer that generates JSON specifications and a Coder that writes pptxgenjs code—while introducing a check-and-repair framework at inference to detect text overlap and overflow.
This work demonstrates a viable path for small open-source models to rigorously adhere to specific design guidelines through dual-role decomposition, synthetic counterfactual reasoning data, and a layout verification framework.
