Google Announces $17 Billion Investment to Build First Data Center in Wyoming
Investing in Wyoming’s infrastructure, energy and workforce
Google has announced a $17 billion investment to construct its first data center in Laramie County, Wyoming, which will use air cooling to cut local water consumption. In partnership with AEP, the facility will deploy a 702 MW commercial-grade fuel cell system manufactured by Bloom Energy, integrated with carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology to route emissions to a sequestration hub. The project is projected to create a peak of roughly 2,500 on-site jobs during construction and 250 direct jobs once operational.
The announcement details a blueprint pairing 702 MW of fuel cells with carbon capture and air cooling, offering a real-world reference for hyperscale data centers navigating power and water constraints.
