IBM, AMD, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory Launch Quantum Error Correction Co-Design Platform

IBM, AMD, And Oak Ridge Unveil Quantum Error Correction Platform

AI guide

IBM, AMD, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) have jointly launched a quantum error correction co-design platform that tightly interconnects quantum computing systems with classical HPC supercomputers within the same facility. Deployed at IBM's site in Poughkeepsie, New York, the platform integrates IBM's 120-qubit Nighthawk r2 quantum processor with ORNL's Umbra supercomputer, powered by AMD EPYC 9005 CPUs and Instinct MI355X GPUs.

Why it matters

By co-locating quantum processors and classical supercomputers within the same physical data center, the platform resolves the latency and complexity challenges previously associated with cross-cloud API communications.
