Apple Restricts Dating Apps and Romantic AI Chatbots to Users 18 and Older

Apple has announced that it is raising the minimum App Store age rating to 18+ for dating apps as well as virtual companions and AI chatbots that facilitate romantic or sexual interactions. The update will be incorporated into the App Store Connect age rating questionnaire on November 16, requiring developers to declare whether their apps involve location sharing or real-person and virtual companion interactions. All apps must complete the updated declaration by January 12, 2027. The move is aimed at preventing minors from accessing virtual boyfriend and girlfriend simulators that may pose mental health risks.
