Nexus Mods Mandates AI Disclosure for New Mod Uploads
The biggest modding site in PC gaming is taking a stance on AI
PC gaming mod platform Nexus Mods has announced that creators must now disclose whether AI was used when uploading new mods, and mods marked as AI-assisted must publicly describe how and where AI tools were applied. While the platform made clear that it is not imposing a blanket ban on AI mods, it will display AI tags more prominently on mod pages and introduce a filter allowing users to hide AI-generated content. Nexus Mods also pledged that it will not use hosted mods for AI training or license them for resale. Creators of existing mods have been granted a 60-day grace period until January 2 to update their listings in compliance with the new policy.
By opting for full transparency rather than an outright ban, the platform offers a pragmatic blueprint for managing AI-generated assets across digital content and creator communities.
