Anthropic's Internal AI Usage Value Outpaces Employee Salaries at Retail Rates

Anthropic disclosed in its IPO filings that the estimated retail value of internal Claude usage surpassed monthly employee salary costs (excluding stock-based compensation) in April. By September, its internal AI usage had surged over 250-fold since January, with more than 90% of newly written software code that month generated by Claude. While not reflecting actual cash outlays, the report highlights a broader trend among tech firms treating AI tokens as a critical production resource while revenue growth outpaces headcount expansion by a wide margin.
